Must Read: Just Kids by Patti Smith
I first fell in love with Patti Smith in high school when I got her book, Babel out of the school library. Then during my punk rock phase (it was a bit long, pink, blue and tangerine hair, nose piercings, a short stint drumming in a all girl punk rock band, lots of studs, creepers and ripped fish nets) I listened to her music. She is truly so avant-garde.
I just finished reading Just Kids and I highly recommend it. I am a sucker for anything written about New York, especially in the 60's. This book gives insight to the incredible artist Robert Mapplethorpe as well as Patti's process of becoming one.
